Meet Dr. J. Scott Mahaney
Dr. J. Scott Mahaney has been part of the Lubbock community for most of his life, and for nearly three decades, he has been caring for the families who call it home. Born and raised here, he returned after dental school with a simple intention: to build a practice grounded in honesty, consistency, and relationships that last.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lubbock Christian University before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry. Shortly after, he returned to Lubbock in 1996 and opened what has grown into a trusted, multi-generational family practice.
Over the years, his philosophy has remained steady. Dr. Mahaney believes in taking a conservative approach to care, focusing on what is truly needed, explaining it clearly, and never rushing patients into decisions. That mindset has helped shape long-standing relationships with families who have trusted him for decades.
He is an active member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and South Plains District Dental Society. Outside of the office, he also gives back through volunteer work with Lubbock Impact, where he provides free extraction care to those in need throughout the community.
When he is not in the office, you will likely find him spending time with his family and grandchildren, or outdoors hunting, fishing, or golfing. Always staying connected to the West Texas life he has called home.

Meet Dr. Tyler Misko
Dr. Tyler Misko joined J. Scott Mahaney DDS PA with a shared belief in what great dentistry should feel like: clear, calm, and centered around the patient. From the beginning, he has embraced the practice’s commitment to conservative care and genuine relationships, while bringing a fresh perspective to support its continued growth.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. Following dental school, he completed a General Practice Residency, where he gained broad clinical experience across restorative dentistry, emergency care, and comprehensive treatment planning.
In the operatory, Dr. Misko is known for his approachable, unhurried style. He takes time to listen, explain options in plain language, and make sure patients feel comfortable and confident at every step. His goal is simple: to make quality dental care feel less intimidating and more collaborative.
As part of the growing team, he helps expand access for new and returning patients while preserving the consistency and personal attention that have defined the practice for decades. Together with Dr. Mahaney, he represents both the foundation and the future of care at the office.

Giving back to West Texas
Caring for Lubbock beyond the dental chair
Dr. Mahaney volunteers several times a year with Lubbock Impact, a private nonprofit that provides free medical and dental care, along with meals, food, and clothing, to those in the Lubbock community who need it most. His involvement is in the dental clinic, where he provides extraction care at no charge and without reimbursement. It's a direct extension of the same values that have guided this practice for over 30 years: care that's genuine, given freely, and focused on the person in front of you.
Community has always been at the heart of what we do here. Dr. Mahaney was born and raised in Lubbock, built his practice here, and has spent his career serving the families and neighbors he's known his whole life.
